Freight Management Systems selects Thriftly and Microsoft Azure for building cloud API platform

Thriftly’s Function as a Service helps transform program functions into APIs without writing code, helps companies transition to Edge and Hybrid Cloud computing

Mertech is pleased to announce that Freight Management Systems (FMS), a leading provider of transportation management systems, has selected its Thriftly.io platform and Microsoft Azure for their next-generation Cloud platform.

Thriftly’s API development platform and global gateways allow companies who want to create Cloud and Hybrid Cloud systems to expose existing or new functions as secure, multi-protocol web APIs. With Thriftly, businesses can institute API-driven architecture quickly, without expensive licensing costs.

“We needed to get a Cloud offering to market fast while continuing to serve customers running on Windows,” said Henry Sheldon, FMS’s CEO. “As an independent software vendor, we have to balance investments in new technologies with support for our existing software. It was important for us to find a solution that leveraged our existing codebase and used it to power our Cloud application. Thriftly’s Function as a Service approach provided that path.”

Thriftly allows programmers of any skill level, working in any programming language, to create a web API by writing functions in the language and structure they know. Thriftly exposes those APIs securely, using JSON Web Tokens, and allows developers to connect using some popular web protocols (including REST, SOAP, JSON-RPC, and Thrift).

“We think developers should be able to access every program function, written in any popular programming language, as an API. And they shouldn’t have to write additional code to handle protocols and security,” said Riaz Merchant, CEO of Mertech. “With Thriftly’s Function-as-a-Service (FaaS) approach, programmers don’t need to learn new skills to develop sophisticated web APIs. Thriftly gives companies undertaking digital transformation efforts to get a jump start on building Hybrid Cloud, and Edge Computing .”

Thriftly supports turning.NET, Java, VB 6, Delphi, and DataFlex functions into web APIs, and allows for easy access control, analytics, and monetization through integration with Microsoft Azure’s API Management Services. To learn more, visit thriftly.io.
