Using Mertech Data Systems, Inc. ISAM to SQL Database Connectivity drivers, Priefert was able to successfully redeploy their entire suite of homegrown enterprise system written in DataFlex to MySQL without any source level changes.

Hitting Database Limits

Priefert’s had been using DataFlex 4GL and its embedded proprietary ISAM database for a number of years. However, as the company grew in size, so did its needs for a robust and open database. The DataFlex database was reaching its limits, causing frequent data corruption that resulted in unacceptable downtime to fix database related issues.

The challenge for Priefert was to move the database immediately to a more robust platform while maintaining its investment in its existing enterprise system developed with DataFlex 4GL without sacrificing on performance.

Priefert looked closely at multiple commercially available databases in the market and after a thorough evaluation finally decided on MySQL® to serve as their corporate database standard. “MySQL was the only one capable of delivering us a solution that worked solidly with our applications” said Bill Baker , IT Manager for Priefert .

Mertech's Value Proposition

Using Mertech’s open ISAM to SQL Database Connectivity (ISDBC™) driver for MySQL and database migration tool, Priefert was able to move its entire corporate database to MySQL and run its existing application with MySQL without changing or recompiling a single line of code.

Baker adds, “After using the migration tools of Mertech Data, we now run all aspects of our business on MySQL, including MRP to machine control to web services. If it goes into the database it goes into MySQL.”

Baker continues “the bottom line is simple: Mertech's technology was the only one that would allow us to preserve our investment in our existing DataFlex application while allowing us to move to a new database platform without performance degradation. Mertech's support has been exceptional. MySQL performance and reliability have left us with no regrets. Now I don't have to spend time worrying about my database and trying to work around its limitations. I can now concentrate on other areas of the business.”
